Description
Pre-op program for breast cancer cancer patients builds physical resilience, supports emotional well being and prepares the body for a smoother recovery. This program is planned over 4-5 weeks. Classes are done virtual and include educational hand outs.
1) Intake and goal setting-Health history review, including treatments planned. Movement assessment, patient goals and limitations, consent from health care specialist. (surgeon or oncologist)
2) Education Modules – Benefits of prehab for cancer surgery, what to expect before & after surgery, lymphatic system basics and strategies for reducing the risk of lymphedema.
3) Movement and exercise sessions (2 sessions) -mobility and gentle stretching. shoulder, neck and chest mobility. Spine and posture support. Gentle flow-based warm ups
4) Strength & Endurance – Core stability. lower body strength for independence post surgery, arm and upper body resistance training, functional movement for getting out of bed/chair.
5) Lymphatic Movement Support – Diaphragmatic breathing, gentle drainage exercises, Seated or supine movements to stimulate lymph flow.
6) Cardiovascular Conditioning – low impact, walking, cycling or elliptical, Breathing exercises for endurance
7)Recovery Tools- Guided Meditation, Journaling prompts/ mindset coaching. Sleep. Pain.
8) Compression Education- if at risk of lymphedema and prophylactic. Nutrition basics for healing.
9) Virtual Check-ins, progress tracking.
